A DESERT JOURNEY

EGYPT - SINAI - CANAAN

The journey of the children of Israel from the captivity of Egypt to the liberty and bounty of Canaan is a fascinating story. In spite of their familiarity, the drama and incident, the triumphs and tragedies of the journey still have the capacity to thrill us. The Christian reader, however, will find more in the record of the exodus than exciting narrative. 'All these things' that happened to the Israelites happened, the Apostle Paul reminds us, 'for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come' (I Cor. 10:11). To find important spiritual lessons in these events, then, is not to impose our ingenuity and imagination on the text. Rather, it is to grasp the reason why these events were recorded at all. Over the course of one hundred brief meditations, this book traces the wilderness journey of the Israelites and the 'things that happened unto them' as they followed the cloudy pillar to the promised land. You will be encouraged and admonished as you journey with them.
